Going to work at 140mph
It seems nowadays that, for those of us who work in big cities, we spend most of the time outside it, on the motorways. Everyone is aware of the congestion problem that haunts us on the way to our jobs, but what are we to do? There are lots of new ideas on the market.
But, really. Let’s be honest. We’re not actually going to go around in a battery powered car, like some sort of Matchbox derby. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t like to break down in the street, pleading for the Automobile Association to bring me down a pair of AA’s so I can get home.
And then we have these new revolutionary transport scooters. No thanks. It brings back too many memories of when I was little, standing on the back of shopping trolleys in the local supermarket. Not the sort of impression I want to create in my professional life.
And none of us DO cycle, like we tell the neighbours. Breathing in those poisonous fumes on your way through the city defeats the whole point of going to work on two wheels.
However, there’s another idea. It’s fuel-powered, it’s got leather upholstery, and you have the enviable position of laughing at all your other colleagues stuck in jams while you rush past at 100mph. It doesn’t even have any wheels.
It is of course, the helicopter. Most of us imagine enormous, black, multi-million dollar aircraft that leave people to polo matches. However, in my recent research (yes, I have contemplated buying one) I have found the Robinson R22. The world’s most popular, apparently. They’re not much bigger than an SUV, they don’t cost much more and “all you need to know is how to drive a car.”
Inside, they provide all the comforts of a four-wheeler, only the 360 degree view is nothing short of enviable. Leather upholstery, tinted windows, they’ve got it all. Enough for the wife and kids on a Sunday afternoon, too.
There are many, many colors to choose from (I personally like Aztec Gold), and you may choose between velour and leather interior.

They’re not terribly noisy, I’m sure they wouldn’t be hard to park, and having one of these outside your house looks pretty good indeed.
So put those batteries back into your stereo and fly to work instead.
