| Carol Barrett began designing jewelry in 1989 after a trip to Asia where she discovered an interest in antiquities. After purchasing an assortment of rare, antique jade carvings, Carol returned to the U.S. and creatively incorporated them into a few necklaces. Carol’s sphere of influence as a jewelry designer quickly grew as those around her took notice of her unique jewelry designs. So, when the jewelry buyer from I. Magnin in San Francisco wanted to purchase her entire line, Barrett knew she was on to something special. Within a few months Saks Fifth Avenue was also carrying her jewelry. Carol Barrett, who is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has since grown to a company that offers a fresh approach to timeless, unique designs.
Barrett takes inspiration from the rich history of antique and carved pieces, which she collects from China, Thailand, Nepal, Japan, Indonesia, Borneo, Europe, Mexico, Australia, Micronesia, Zambia and the U.S. A focal carving or artifact of jade, mammoth ivory or silver characterizes her collections. Combining these unique pieces with semi-precious stones she creates exceptional one-of-a-kind pieces. Each design carries its own symbolic meaning, and clients can even customize their own pieces.
Barrett’s goal is to create jewelry that embodies opulence, luxury, and high style while maintaining the individuality and living Asian history each of her pieces have become known for. Jewelry created by Carol Barrett is stylish, reflecting current trends by blending the past and present. With her signature flare and original designs, Barrett brings the past to life in jewelry that celebrates the independent spirit of today’s women.
