| River Landing has been home to people for thousands of years. The charted history of this land reaches back to when nomadic Indians inhabited the area and roamed the coastal plain, following the rhythm of the seasons and the winding bank of the Northeast Cape Fear River. The first land grants in River Landing were issued in the early 1700's when the Northeast Cape Fear River was a primary avenue for transportation and trade. Being only a short trip upstream from the port of Wilmington, naval stores were the first industry in the area.
