Under normal circumstances, an area described as “exclusive” usually depicts a middle-to-higher class community of well-off residents, some of whom may have seven-figure bank accounts.
Cast your eyes upwards on the class ladder, and imagine a place cut off from normality, a thriving community island estate where the average wealth levels out at around $10,000,000. 216 acres of lush paradise, which the Census Bureau considers to be America’s richest community.
That place is Fisher Island. With its marina decorate with over a dozen yachts the size of cruise liners, the terracotta roofs blend with the abundant greenery like the markings of an exotic animal. The population is just below 700, all of whom enjoy their privacy by forbidding photography on the island. The golf course takes a sizeable portion of the island’s coveted land; indeed it is never busy, the odd ex-tennis star or Hollywood veteran may pop up now and then to walk off excess cuisine, but everyone has a space of their own here- be it in one of the elusive villas spread around the island like icing on a wedding cake, or in one of the relatively new apartments.
